ABOUT ME

Hi, I'm Mary Margaret.

WHERE I COME FROM

I was born and raised in Jefferson County and am running for County Commission to preserve the Jefferson County way of life we’ve all come to enjoy.

My parents, Warren and Reva Nicodemus Mickey, operated a dairy farm and I began to help almost as soon as I could walk. The daily grind of ensuring the cows were milked, no matter the weather, no matter how we felt, played a big part in the work ethic I now possess. Throughout school I was active in 4-H, the Asbury United Methodist Church, Pop Singers, the Jefferson County Fair, and other school organizations.

DEDICATED TO PUBLIC SERVICE, NOT SELF-SERVICE

After graduating from Jefferson High School, I received a BA in Elementary Education from Shepherd University and began a 29-year career as a kindergarten teacher at Blue Ridge Elementary School. I loved being in the classroom and working with “my kids.” Along the way I obtained a Masters in Teaching from WVU and a Masters in Administration from Salem University. I saw the need for more administrators who “came up” through the ranks in our area schools and who knew the needs of our children and decided to take the plunge. I was hired as the Head Teacher and School Improvement Specialist at North Jefferson Elementary School, where I’ve been for the past two years.

While teaching, I embarked upon a second career as a police officer. I was one of the founding members of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Reserve, graduated from the West Virginia Police Academy in 2003, and worked, for a time, as a police officer in Shepherdstown. I’m currently a part-time officer for Shepherd University and provide security and crowd control for sporting events, graduations, and other large scale events on campus.

My father, at 87 years old, and I still actively farm, but we’ve traded the dairy cows for beef cows. Together we farm around 200 acres. Visitors will find a few chickens and goats around the farm, too!

I’m proud to raise my son, Mickey, in Jefferson County, a place I’m blessed to call home.

It will be an honor to have your vote and support.
